Types of Care

We like to think of Assisted Living as a “Safety Net”. Some residents need a lot of assistance and others need less support, a tight safety net as opposed to a loose safety net. Needs are met that are both scheduled and unscheduled in nature.

General services usually include: meals, housekeeping, laundry, transportation, social activities, emergency call system, assistance with bathing, dressing, toileting, medication assistance, staff availability 24 hours and much more.

The extent of services provided are dependent upon what the individual needs are. Let’s use meal time as an example. Assistance with meals can range from simple reminders that a meal is about to be served to assistance getting in the wheelchair and beeing wheeled to the dining room. Everyone’s care needs vary and are determined after a health and wellness evaluation and collaboration with the family and individual.

Independent living can mean many different things. This living option could be for the individual who might need or want meals provided, housekeeping, transportation, social activities and access to health and wellness services. Apartment sizes in independent living tend to be larger and often there is assisted living and dementia/alzheimers care on campus.

Medical and non-medical assistance can be hired in the home. These services can include assistance with bathing, companionship, meal preparation, medication reminders and such. This option works well if the need is very defined and predictable. Services are billed by the hour with minimum numbers of hours required per visit.
